But I'm subtracting points because I found the plot insulting. I think the actors, director, production crew, and editors did a professional job, no one is going to win an Academy Award, but they did a professional job. I also think the screenplay writer did a good. But why present the movie as historical fiction? Replacing the actual male hero of the true account with a completely fictional female character? Why lie to the audience?
Also, the idea that ANYONE could climb to the top of a balloon above 30,000 feet is absolutely absurd. In reality the real hero, his hands black with frostbite, used his teeth to pull open the diaphragm. I get the theatrical appeal of climbing the balloon. But why make it a woman that does it, except perhaps to pander to this Captain Marvel fantasy about girl power?
I find this movie insulting to the truth. Bill it as a fantasy period movie. But NOT as historical fiction.
